Fat Versus Carbs for Optimum Brain Function

Brain

Did you know that your brain is approximately 60% fat? Did you know that your brain thrives on healthy fats? Well, it is—and it does.

The brain consists of fats that create all of the cell membranes in your body. If your diet is filled with carbs, which equals sugar, then your brain is unable to make quality nerve cell membranes. On the other hand, if your diet provides the essential fats, your brain cells can manufacture higher quality nerve cell membranes, and thus, significantly enhance your nerve cells’ ability to function at their peak capacity.

Cholesterol, which is typically found in healthy fats, is critical for proper brain function. The brain represents about 3% of your total body weight and 25% of the cholesterol in your body is found in your brain, where it plays important roles, i.e., membrane function, as an antioxidant, serves as the raw material for making hormones; progesterone, estrogen, cortisol, and testosterone. Cholesterol plays an important role in the synthesis of Vitamin D3 which is responsible for proper bone calcification. In summary: Cholesterol is vital for the brain (and body) to function at its best.

If you want to reduce your risks for dementia, Alzheimer, ALS, and numerous other brain disorders, I urge you to please put down the processed, high GI carbs and instead eat an abundance of healthy fats for optimum brain health. These fats include avocado, avocado mayo, olive oil, coconut oil, fresh/white cheese, nuts, seeds, butter, coconut butter, sour cream, heavy whipping cream, eggs, salmon, olives, etc.

And, remember, eating fat will NOT make you fat. Why? Because fat does not trigger the insulin response. Without insulin, fat cannot be stored. The more healthy fat you eat, the leaner and healthier you will be.
